Grucci family member gets time served for shooting grandson

(03/15/11) RIVERHEAD - A member of the Grucci fireworks family was sentenced today to time served for shooting his grandson.

Joseph Grucci, 70, pleaded guilty to assault in January.

He shot his grandson, 20-year-old Christopher Giresi, twice outside his Bellport home in December.

Grucci complained Giresi and his friends were being too loud and that Giresi then threatened to kill him.

Grucci's attorney, William Keahon, says the grandfather and grandson have since reunited.

"He loves his granddad, he wants to live with him," Keahon says. "He indicated to the judge he didn't want his granddad to go to jail."

Grucci will not have to serve any probation.
